i know noone reading this cares, but i need to document this day as the moment we secured our future as the next true dynasty in basketball.

ANDREW BYNUM IS SIGNED UNTIL 2013.

Last year we were rated as the 19th best team in the NBA, but because of Kobe's elevation and the development of Jordan Farmar, Sasha, and most notably Andrew Bynum, we topped the league (before we signed Pau Gasol). But Bynum was injured for the last 5 months of the season, but we still made the finals and shocked the whole world. Without our second best player, and the player touted as the next Shaq. Now he is back and as amazing ever. AND WE HAVE HIM FOR 4 YEARS!!!

No one can beat the Lakers this year, we are by far the deepest team of the millennium. And the best part is we have 5-6 years of domination till Kobe is too old.

I'm so excited. We won our first two games by 29 point average. And Kobe doesnt need to much at all to make this happen. This time last year we were were the bottom team, now we are having Charles Barkley say we are maybe the best Kobe team of all time.

LONG LIVE KOBE! LONG LIVE BYNUM!

Ill look at this post in 2013 and know this is the day we secured our rings.

All of a sudden i'm catching a couple of lucky breaks I think. Or just things are getting easier. I dunno. I'm too cynical to ever really appreciate stuff.

We won basketball last night. I scored 2 points but I'm terrible so that's pretty good for me. Anyway so this way game 2. We lost game 1 87-17. That's right, no typo. 70 Points. We had this amazing sequence where I was dribbling the ball up the court and it came off my foot and went to the guy in front of me. so he runs and scores. I got to pass it in and somehow pass it right back to him. He catches and scores again. I wish someone filmed it.

Rohan went away this morning. So I'm all alone which is kinda exciting. Don't know why, just feels like my parents are away. But I'll definitely miss him seeing as he's one of two friends I have in Melbourne.

But just in time for him going away, Caroline comes down next week. First time i've seen her pretty face seen I seen it like 22 days in a row. So I'll definitely give her a noogie and a rasberry.
And that same week Trad and Joel will be down for their shows. So party times will be had. I happen to be drinking quite well lately, so I will give them a run for their money.

Oh yeah, The Wire is the best TV show in the history of television. I'm 3 episodes into season 2 and i'm already sad that I only have 4 more season left to watch.

On a lighter note, the new Bring Me the Horizon album is surprisingly good. In fact it's about as good as hardcore gets. The first three songs - "The Comedown", "Chelsea Smile" and "It Was Written in Blood" are fucking incredible - the perfect mix of melody, mosh, samples and those Slipknot styled guitar sounds. I also got Confession's EP which isn't my thing, but has a Frenzal Rhomb cover of "Ship Of Beers" which makes me laugh heaps.

I also picked up Bjork's "Homogenic" album last week. It's so cute. She is actually the cutest thing thats ever lived and I'm in love with her. She's like the worlds cutest monkey in human form.

Beastie Boys "Check Your Head" is an album I have revisted heaps too. When I was kid i'd fast forward through the album to songs like "Pass the Mic", "Professor Booty" and "The Maestro" and ignore all the weird instrumentals and jazz tinged songs. Now I listen through the whole album and am just in awe at how they can make hardcore, rap, jazz, funk, and rock all blend together on the same album without it sounding at all awkward. Fucking great record.

MGMT and Miami Horror's new records are also pretty special. Both make things feel nice and colourful without getting you too involved. Makes it easier to drift away.

For most of this year, I was pretty much just listening to the same records I was last year. Records that have been out for years and that weren't very new to me. And a few that I missed out on at the time and realised I loved. Either way, I was that close to writing off 2008 as the worst year for new music ever.

Until Bloc Party announced on Monday August 18th that they were releasing a new album on August 21st online. Titled "Intimacy", this album reminds me of Brand New's "Devil and God" in the way it makes their last two albums seems immature and irrelevant with it's depth and invention. STOKED.

But wait, there's more. Somehow I didn't even know Sigur Ros had released an album this year. In fact I hadnt listened to anything since "Agaetis Byrjun". Now I'm sitting here, happy as larry, with two good albums for all of 2008. Bring on 2009.

Note: I also consider the 3 new tracks on "Good Girl Gone Bad" to make it a new album, so that becomes Number 3 on my albums of the year list. How does someone have 7 Number 1 singles on one album?

Whoa so this last week has been the busiest ever. I worked every day and straight from work went to The Getaway Plan's film clip shoot. Four day shoot, and I am making a documentary about it for Channel V. The clip took us to Black Rock Beach down south, Northcote, a swimming pool in brunswick, four different parks around Northcote and a special effects warehouse at Docklands. The clip is going to be actually insane. Think Cloverfield meets Paranoid Park meets Bittersweet Symphony. I even got two roles as an extra in the clip. My famous jacket is now immortalized through video.

But anyway, I did all that whilst writing and interview bands for Blunt, and doing all my work. And then partied hard on the weekend between driving lessons and meetings about the getaway DVD. I still haven't really spent any time relaxing at home since I got back nearly 3 weeks ago. I think i'm addicted to doing stuff.

I'm not drinking until October. That's my way of staying healthy and motivating my mind into the focus i need to get all the work I have to get done. Plus drinking is boring.

Rohan goes away in October. When I went away he got a girlfriend. Since we are so in sync, I think I'll probably get a girlfriend when he's away. Then we can sex in every room of the house and watch romcoms in the loungeroom under a doona. And she can be my date to the ARIAs. It'll be sweet.

Ok that's all.

Travel Diary Part 1: Pacific Club Parts

Every time i've travelled I've kept a written journal of what i was doing. And every time i've travelled i've taken not nearly enough photos. This time, we had Caro's awesome camera, and I borrowed Rohans little camera that also took video. But I spent more time catching up with Caro and being active on our little adventures, and we only kept diaries in point form. But I figure one day i'll wanna read that and connect the dots. And I figure someone might get a kick out of the stories.

DAY 0.5 and DAY 1 (23rd July) - The long way there.
I went to Sydney on Tuesday 22nd July. I guess that's a good place to start, considering I picked up my new passport at about 2pm and then went to catch a 5pm plane to Sydney. Typical Lukel style, but hey it's worked so far. I didnt pack much - a shitty towel, 10 blank AA style tshirts, and the Nivea toiletries bag that both Caro and Nat laughed at me for claiming for free at the chemist a few months earlier. Whose laughing now?

I had dinner with Bombings, Kellie and Mel, plus a couple of beers. And then got a taxi to North Sydney to meet the amazing travel partner in crime and love, Ms Mccredie. On the way, I had this old taxi driver who told me stories on the way about how he came here via boat from Lebanon when he was 16 and how he had no money so he slept with 3 girls at once on the boat for 3 months on the way here without them all knowing. And from memory he loved one of them, but she dies before he could look her up in Sydney. Anyway, that was entertaining.

Me and Caroline decided not to pay for the plane food and instead make our own meals made up of our favourite foods. baby toasts, sundried tomatoes, dips, cheesestringers... all kinds of lush. I stayed at her parents house and we flew the next day. it was fun, the flight over. Not too painful, we had so much catching up to do as we hadnt seen eachother in forever. I took some valium but it seems no matter what, I just cant get to sleep on planes. It's horrid.

Our plane was late by 3 hours so we arrived at 10pm. But our driver from the hotel was still there and he drove us the 45 min to our resort. Lucky, cos it would have meant talking to taxi drivers otherwise. So we arrive, walk in. It's beautiful, truly. Like nice little plants and water fountain and bridge and stuff. We sit down and a guy takes our bags to our room, while someone else comes in with two dakaris for us and an ashtray for me. we just looked at eachother like "this is already amazing". And it was. About 380$ for 5 nights in a place like this is just too good. The rooftop pool is beautiful and the bed was so comfy. And we had the best room service and stuff. Was just rad. Anyone who goes to Phuket (which I don't blame you if you skip Phuket and go somewhere else btw) should stop by this place for a couple nights.

But before that conclusion came we went into town (10 minute walk) and Caro made the profound comment "so yeah, right now I can definitely tell we're in a different country". Haha. We got a beer and some pad thai. And got sleepy and snoozed our little heads off. Now the thing is, I think neither me nor Caro are used to sleeping in the same bed as someone else. Since we are like the most perpetually single people in the history of companionship. So learning that trick was fun. Apparently I sometimes sleep fart (it was the thai food I swear) and Caro flinches and fights people at least once an hour in her sleep. I also wake up first lots (especially on nanna naps) so I had to learn to sneak about cos she is about as easy to wake up as me (read: easy). Once we got the sleeping downpat though I maybe even kinda miss having someone else in bed. Oh yeah, and neither of us snore. And she doesnt drool like Pez. Moving On.

Day Two (24th July) - Ruh Roh / Reunited Besties
So we wake up, the powers out, and there is a huge storm outside. We freak out. We have our free breakfast in this rain looking out at the jungle. then we still swim in the pool and the power comes back on. We look up a weather report. It seems in Thailand no one updates weather reports or forecasts. Cos it says Thunderstorms and 80% chance of rain for every day for the next 4 months. Well it cleared up that afternoon and didnt rain again for like like 10 days. Either way, that morning we were like "oh no, oh no, oh no" and forming fake tans contigency plans.

Eventually we cheered up and walked into town. and cheered up some more. we ate these awesome prawns wrapped in some kinda bready thing and I had squid. Things were good until a bee came along and I got to witness first hand the psycho crazy anti bee thing she has. She flipped out totally. And then it landed in her dakari and she almost cried. So we went to a little takeaway store and bought 10 different kinds of juice and alcohol and brought it back to our hotels. And made lots of cocktails. Then we sat on the balcony and talked and drank for hours and hours. Just catching up and having fun. Was so awesome. we made a mixed playlist of our favourite songs on my laptop and just blasted the tunes and drank. Eventually we went down for dinner in the nice restaurant. But we we're drunk and couldn't stop laughing. I think everyone thought we were cute and crazy, rather than annoying and arrogant. Just cos we were so happy drunk.

Then after eating I think we drank more and went up to the pool for a midnight swim. I remember this being hysterical and amazing. But I don't remember the details. But it was funny.

Day Three (25th July) - EPHELANTS
So we got up kinda early and decided that today was "tourist". The first mistake was thinking "Phuket Town" would be good. See, Phuket is a huge island. like 80kms long and 50 kms wide. And there are touristy areas, nice areas, waterfalls, mountains, all kinda of stuff. But Phuket Town, as in the actual town. Is more like an arsehole. Kinda the Blacktown / Broadmeadows of Phuket. Either way, we bought a few supplies and Caro got some yummy ice cream. We shopped too, and stuff.

While we were there met a nice Tuk Tuk Taxi driver (most are gross and annoying) and we got him to take us to where we could ride elephants. So yeah, we did that. It's such a nice feeling, they feel so weird to touch but they are so cute and peaceful. And a little asian kid was riding it for us. He also whilst riding said elephant, was making little toys for us out of coconut leaves - like awesome little fish and a cicada and a bird. Good kid.

After that we went up the big buddha mountain and had amazing views. He's still not completely built yet. But he's a chiller. I tried to pat a dog who went psycho at me. Caro picked up a kitty. If only I had known at the time that this one not a one off reaction, I wouldnt have taken so many photos. I SET A PRECIDENT. Damn Lukel.

It was around now that the guts started to squirm and I learnt that Natalie Perry was in fact not the only girl in the universe that does poos. There are two of them. And they are my two best lady friends. What are the odds? Then Caroline cut my hair. She did a rad job. I like it short.

Still, we went to Kata Beach and ate at Dino Park. Basically looks like a swamp but when it looks like steam I think its mozzie spray. And there is fire shooting around while you eat. Still, the food was awesome and we made our first real friend of the trip. I named him ELEPHANT. And we fed him and and hugged him. He was a baby elephant, and he was on the side of a road just chilling. He was so rad. After that we drank at this little bar with like 10 dudes at it, and hung out with an old dude from Darwin called John. He was rad and all, but there was something weird about him I think. Still, I found out the bar had accom upstairs for cheap and I was happy. They let me put on music, I think we put on Amy WInehouse. It was rad. Just got real drunk and happy.

We had about 2 kms to walk home along a road beside the beach. Well, quickly enough that turned into some foot dipping and then degenerated into eventual swimming and sand fights. Note: water is very dangerous on Karon Beach. Red Flags everywhere mean don't ever swim. But we did and it was awesome. Again, I just remember laughing so much. And we have photo evidence of just us being silly as throwing coconuts and sand and stuff. So much fun. I don't think we walked all the way. I think we eventually got into a Tuk Tuk covered in sand and drenched clothes. Worth it.

Day Four (26th July) - Fresh Fresh Fresh
This was the day we kept excusing ourselves to go "freshen up" in the bathroom. It happens for a day to everyone. Just a change in food and stuff. Just squirming and squirming. "Turn the music up please". I remember once i couldnt get the music up on time so I sang Kiss from a Rose at the top of my lungs to help divert attention from the fart noises.

Caro got me medicines once she felt better and we were ok eventually that day. I know we watched lots of movies, but I can't remember which ones. we just did.

That night we went to Patong, but the mix of how terrible the place is and how bad our guts felt, meant we didn't enjoy our meal much. We also tried having a drink somewhere, but didn't have much fun. So we went home and watched more movies. We also sunbaked lots this day, and swam in the pool a bit. Just chilled really.

MORE PHOTOS HERE

our balcony. my old hair.

the pool and me playing stargate through the waterfall

i smoked a lot. cheap and it just felt good. i also learnt by the end how to be considerate when smoking

haha just silly taxi photo

thats one of the cicada toys the elephant kid made out of coconut leaves

elephant!

Caro "Axl" McCredie

What?
so its my last night in thailand. it all went by so fast, but also seems like forever since we left. im kinda bummed to be coming home. i dont wanna go to work, and i dont wanna go back to cold. or back to carolessness. right now im on samui on our balcony and i have a 180 view of water with little islands and splatterings of coconut trees and little bungalows. i could live in thailand i reckon.

i dunno if ill come back here for a while. the other day we had a crazy adventure with our bikes that made me think of me and rohans plans to buy a car in france and drive through eastern europe and down through egypt to my mums hometown in algiers. i think thats my next big trip. gotta save. gotta save lots. i dont wanna sit at a desk forever, and its doubtful ill be tied down with a partner any time soon (ever). so its all doable.

tomorrow we fly early to phuket. then we check our bags in at the airport and go shopping in patong. our flight to sydney is 10pm, arrives 10am. then i wait for my melbourne flight at 2pm. ill be pretty exhausted.

when i get home things to do:

* quit smoking (gonna finish a thai carton that costs 20 bucks and read one of those books that help you quit while you smoke)
* no more sex with girls i dont care about
* license test in september
* less internet, less video games
* watch more basketball
* no more lunch money
* get guitar lessons
* get motorbike license
* more adventures
* more coffee shops, if rohan can find a lover girl there, so can i
* listen to even more sonic youth than i already do
* make more money. which means DJ shifts, writing bios, writing for more mags, and generally using my (not amazing but adequate) writing skills to get the bling

and of course, go to a doctor and see what the fuck is going on with my stupid knee and all the weird colours in the wound. stupid thing.

Looking for a ride to your secret location
Where the kids are setting up a free-speed nation, for you

i just checked into a bungalow in kata beach. its beautiful. 600baht which is kinda expensive but its got a nice bed, aircon, fridge. its about 20 a night. ive been paying 3 bucks a night up the road, but it was hell. in a romantic way, but still hell. at one point, the room was full of bloody bandages, blood soaked clothes, disinfectants, whiskey, more whiskey, coke and cigarette butts. and at 2am on the first night i stayed, a whore came into my room begging me for sex and crying cos i didnt want her. next door i could hear this creepy scottish dude fucking the shit out of another one. funny how it took me two days to work out i was staying in a whore bar and thats why it was cheap. me and caro drank there two ngihts before and it seemed fine. stupid stupid stupid.

anyway, to back track. yesterday morning i got a motorbike, some beers and beer coolers (which dont work) and took a bike ride all down the south coast. about 20km south i found a dirt road and went down it for aaaages. didnt see a human for any of the time. i took video of this natural lookout i found where monkeys were playing in the trees. and then i got lost for like half an hour. finally found my way back but had to go down this hill. in my usual pretentious way i took a video saying i dont know how im getting down this hill made of rock and dirt. well, i made it down. kinda. the bike went flying and i did too. and gashed open my fucking knee. i could see lots of white and my elbow, arms, leg were like covered in blood and bits of rock. i freaked so hard. took a video of me freaking too. dont remember doing it but i did. so i ripped up my tshirt to stop the bleeding. went back to kata in so much pain cos of the rocks in under my skin. then i went to pharmacy and bought all the wrong shit cos they couldnt speak english. i drank whiskey straight for an hour and bandaged it and passed out. eventually i went to a good pharmacist and he told me no hospital, and he helped my tape it up with buttefly tape and bandages, gave mt detol, cleaned out the rocks. it looked heaps better after that. like at first it really looked like a gaping wound, now just something that will be a scar.

anyway last night i had vegies for dinner, realised im out of money cos i had to pay for the bike and our 17,000 baht hotel for the previous 5 nights. then i sunbaked and decided to ride some more (cos i couldnt walk). i ended up riding about 80 kms. all around phuket. ill never forget riding down the windy hill to patong. it was so beautigful and exhiliratying that my leg didnt even hurt. then i went home and watched lust, caution (great movie, really great... and top notch sex scene)

before all this madness, caro was here. we stayed in a beautiful hotel everyone should go to called the pacific club. rooftop pool, massages, great food, room service, views. seems like a liftime ago. one day we got heaps of juices and alcohol and made all these great cocktails. and just talked for like 6 hours. it was so much fun. another night we drank in kata and walked home (about 3kms) on the beach. all of a sudden it dawned on me to just jump in the raging crazy ocean. so we both did. and it was so funny. there is a great set of photos ive got the camera. and caro threw sand at me, but you can see i dodged it to the right. next photo is my hand with the sand leaving it and hitting her smack bang in the face. hahahaha. BOOYAH. sorry caro. serves her right for being waaaay prettier than me.

um i dunno what else, phi phi island tomorrow. i cant wait for caros face on the approach. she wont me able to talk, its like that majestic. first time i saw it, i just stared forever.

over and out,

lukel

I've now heard the worst band the "punk/emo" scene has created yet.
I thought it was All Time Low. And then I thought it was Enter Shikari.

But Pete Wentz new kids Four Year Strong just went, took the cake, stuffed it in their fat mouths, shat it out and all shared the remains 2 girls one cup style.

It's so hard to describe the frantic mess of cliche this band creates. And how the only talent they have is managing to make three minute songs feel like they have gone on for close to ten minutes amidst the plethora of useless vocal acrobatics, gang vocals, weak as piss New Found Glory rip off breakdowns and some of the worst "I'm so cute when i'm smug and use my thesaurus" lyrics (Sample: "Roll with the punches Because you know that it’s inevitable that we are unforgettable, yet, totally unpredictable" - it's WAY WORSE when you hear how he sings it). All of this is sped up to mayhem levels to mask the inability to write an actual decent tune and to reel in fringe dwelling hardcore kids that never made it to "scene level" - all of whom will be attracted to the band's overweight beard guy look.

And what's worse, I cant escape people listening to them or requesting them at clubs.

New bands shouldn’t be allowed to start anymore, unless I can offset how bad they are by making money off them.
